ELAN S1 S2 steering wheel

PostPost by: knockoffnut » Thu Jan 09, 2020 3:16 pm

...just to throw some additional murk in the water... My 1966/67 S3SE which I bought in 1979 in very original condition, had this exact style of steering wheel, so I am pretty sure that a small number of S3 cars may have been fitted with this style of wheel as well. There may have been a few of these laying at the back of a shelf and used up later.

Sooo....can anyone determine if the black horn push is original to a 64 S1....3754. I see this one has it and determination is that the yellow and green were later production. I'm quite sure the black horn push mine came with was original. What say ye??

Well I dont know for sure but I believe the early cars had the green/yellow badge, I found this pic of 26/3924 in my files which looks original ......no idea where I got it so if the owner is on the forum I hope he does not mind.

Kurt

My 1600 (S1) #26/0538 was delivered to myself direct from the factory - it has the yellow/green horn button as well as the riveted wood wheel.
The black assembly was introduced some time later to commemorate Jim Clark's death.

The sun is out - time for a drive in Lotus Land!

I think Jav is the son of Mike Abbas. Mike did indeed own the Emma Peel S3 in late 1984. I guess it very well could be the original wheel.
