Glassfibre Cam Cover

PostPost by: bigvalvehead » Wed Jun 29, 2016 8:40 am

Popped one out of the mould.

Drill your own holes and put nuts on if you wish.

?75 plus postage.

I will be making the Holbay, BRM, Novamotor and bigvalve covers in due course.

Hi Dave
Have you had one on an engine for any period of time yet? I've found fibreglass parts tend to soften and warp when they get very warm but that may depend on the resin used. In principle seems an excellent idea though.

Nigel,
I believe these are not intended for use on the cars but just as a show piece. Think there are a couple of guys making them.

Hi Nigel
This is just for show.
I do have alloy ones made from my own patterns.
I have holbay, Brm, cosworth,mk1 and bigvalve covers.
Might also do the novamotor one soon.
The mould was made as I intend to make a carbon fibre cover, also working on carbon/Kevlar dumps at the moment.
Cheers
Dave

Good job, I know how tricky it can be to form lettering in fibreglass and carbon. I have been thinking about making a carbon Cosworth YB cover but have chickened out so far, 18 bolt holes! :-) Also, I would want to actually use it in anger!

I might look into simplifying the design, not bothered about wording, just needs to keep the oil in and hold the cam sensor rigid.

How did you make your mould, Dave, or is that a trade secret? :-)
