I am looking into the purchase of an Elan that has a twin cam engine, built to a racing spec, c190bhp and dry sumped.
The engine would be surplus to my requirements and if I buy the car will be sold on - if you are interested please let me know - prior to purchase I need to work out how much the engine may be worth to an interested buyer.
Thanks
David

Hi Dave
Don't think so! It is a heavily modded Elan, don't need the engine though.

You can get an idea what the engine is worth at http://www.race-cars.com/engsold/twincams.htm
Depending on the build spec and condition it could easily be in the $20k or more range.
I recently have had a road spec high performance twincam built: 181hp @6900 / 143 torque @5100 with a quite flat torque curve from 4000 through 7000. Price tag for this kind of performance typically in excess of $20k from a professional builder.

Who really needs a 20k twink?
And if they did, who would buy one already built, not knowing any provenance, based on what someone advertises!

Depends what you want to do with it but if your after serious performance in your Elan thats the sort of money you need to spend

But before parting with that sort of money I would want to see it stripped down or know it was built by a reputable race engine builder that I could talk to about whats inside it.
cheers

that's the mio$ question: what's inside AND MORE IMPORTANTLY W H O built it; if not yourself, like some of us do - BUT the good UK builders are KNOWN and trustworthy (tx n. for the fantastic head : he's not looking for new clients, sorry) sandy
