+2 failsafe solenoid valve new

+2S failsafe replacement solenoid valve viton tipped NEW never been used top quality 80 Euros + postage.
This is for Lotus Elan 1972/1973 +2S130 FAILSAFE headlamps

Alan, are you talking about the headlight vacuum switch that is mounted on the dash, or a solenoid valve that's been added tp electrically control the vacuum, presumably under the hood?

If the former I am interested... A picture would be worth a thousand words :D

it's the solenoid valve that's in the engine bay next to the rad as fitted to +2S130 Failsafe system.
This is also actuated by the headlamp flash when headlamp switch is selected on mainbeam not dipped beam.
I don't know of any solenoid switch in the dash only a manuel vacuum switch.

the solenoid valve is much better than the original and is a big improvement.
You can headlamp flash when dip switch is in high beam position

strange everyones +2S Fail Safe the headlamps stay done for at least 12 hours :roll:

Mine for a month+

I spent a lot of time on the vacuum system when I first got my +2.

The chassis reserve has a hole somewhere so I bypassed that and put in a small reserve tank.

Much less volume than the chassis one so it does not pull the lamps down as quickly when switching the lights on/off.

Also, I put in a new non-return valve at the manifold side.

It can be done :)

Hey ho, my UK S3 headlights only stay up for at most about 10 minutes after the engine is stopped.

Alway been like that..

Good solution! A metal oil can would probably work! Any chance of a pic? There's plenty of room in the nose to mount one, I imagine.

Arghhh....

Had the bonnet off yesterday to do some winter prep on the electrics for the lights......

Spent a lot of time gazing in the direction of that reserve tank :?

It's basically a small metal box about 10" square and 2" deep with one 8mm pipe opening.
It was fabricated by the previous owner, but only installed by me when I got the car.
I mounted it on the floor of the nose of the car in front of the steering rack, below the air filter box.

A bigger reserve would probably result in better on/off (retraction) of the lights.

Will see what I can do this evening about a photo. :)

if you really want to make a tank, use Plastic 100mm dia drain pipe with a blank at each end and attached with Ty Wraps under the Steering Rack. Put airline connection in the middle for take off.
Imho i would pressure test each part first to determine where the leak is :wink:
Once i found a leak in a Headlamp Vacuum Unit, i laminated fibre glass over the bottom of the unit then sprayed Inside a Puncture Repair Aerosol. Work very well.

Allan, totally concur with your repair method for the vacuum pods. I've fiberglassed mine and, if needed, will be using the tire repair stuff, too. Great and inexpensive way to recycle an old, rusty vacuum pod.
