Lotus Elan

Sixties ?lan, and books from Ron Hickman personal collection

PostPost by: Sundaydriver » Fri Apr 24, 2015 2:56 pm

Hi, wanting to get funds in...

Selling a few Lotus books, ads, brochures etc, a few of the publications were Rons personal copies.( bought from POOKS).

EDIT :
Ron Hickman Collection books:
All nine RH collection books cost me around ?500 to buy, so, sensible offers are welcomed. I'm aware there won't be that many folk out there who value these as I do,however, I'm keen to keep all nine as a set, as they tell a story and have provenance way beyond the value of the regular copies. A couple of these cost me well over ?100 each. I still think they were worth that for the added value from the notes and lists that are included along with the pencilled comments that reveal Rons attitude to errors and omissions in the various roadtests and facts stated.
I may regret selling, however I can't justify selling them for less than I paid, so I'll list them on eBay if I get no serious interest here, and if that comes to nought then I'll hang on to them.
The non RH items I'm less fussy about, and would split along as its into worthwhile lots, hope that's ok.
Much appreciate all replies via email, and apologies that I was originally unclear on the value. When the cars are exchanging for around ?25 to ?80k ( Elite ) , I think the provenance here is worth what I invested in them at least ?

Do please get in touch :D

Ok, I've realised I've got two additional ones from Rons collection :

1) The Story of Lotus , Ian H Smith ( signed by Author)
2) Practical Classics & car restorer - Miles Wilkins dedicated by Author to Ron H

I'm keen to know if anyone would be interested in buying the lot of eight books ?

The collection here is very unique,
Books either signed by its author, or has notes and comments in the margins, and two books have substantial typed reference material affixed to the inside covers.
Some very funny remarks clearly written in angst in various of the books. Ron was clearly a character !

Ok, now I'm remembering the whole saga... I bought 'The Gold Portfolio' book, started reading it, and noticed someone had scribbled in it... This led me to buy all the others that were all stated as from RH collection .

So, the 'lot' is now nine books !

I'm taking offers and really don't think it's right to split these nine up.

Check out some of the annotations in this otherwise very modest book:

And some other books that are more modest !
NB- These are all not from RH collection.

The best of these I'd suggest are:

The First ten years

Ok, I think that's all I'm looking to sell with these below that I've bought from various folk, (not RH collection).

Apologies, I'm out in my Lotus Elise for the day now ..! Will catch up this evening :-)

1964 S1 (engine ready, awainting body paint)
1967 S3 DHC (now adjusted by Brian Buckland, totally calm idle)
1969 S4 FHC (final interior stuff)
