How much weight do you save with a magnesium gearbox and magnesium differential cases? Seems like valid cost saving measure to outlaw these items. I've considered building a racing Elan for USA, but I'm currently afraid to even consider the costs involved.

With a mag gearbox casing over cast you save 4.6kg. mag compared to aluminium on the diff case saves 1kg.

For us to build a full FIA spec Elan ready to go would with all new parts would cost around ?90,000, not a cheap exercise but a superb car!
