looking to replace the Nader nuts on my Federal+2 with the 3 ear KO's. So far I have 3 and need a 4th for the driver driver side. There are some reversed ear ones on ebay but I understand these were for european models.

I assume the clue is in the "Federal" bit
The reverse ear ones were, according to Ron Hickman's account in Robinshaw and Ross, originally created for the federal market and a small number were produced before it was realised that they were completely useless and were replaced by the octagonal ones.

Hello Ian,
The "reversed ears ' meant the ears which were originally pointed outboard were changed and canted inboard. YO can imagine trying to use a Thor on ears that are moved closer to the wheel with out striking the bodywork. The only reason I can think of is this was response to the assertions by american consumer advocate that outbound ears on KO's were something akin to slashing scimitars hell bent to mutilate the helpless pedestrian. That is why the hub nuts we have in the "States" are often called "Nader Nuts" . I am still in need of a left side KO.

I have a spare used one. Give a call to discuss it. Frank 770-565-2281 evenings outside Atlanta.
Also, the reversed or inverted three eared knock-offs were for the Elan SS also known as the Super Safety.

Hello Frank,
Thanks for the offer, I will be ringing you this evening. Atlanta is barely 3 hours from Franklin, TN. Maybe this is an excuse to take the +2 out for a days drive?
