Isn't the bonnet going to catch in that last picture?

Will you be disassembling to paint the car or what are your plans?

Hi Steve.

Which picture? The last picture shows the clutch pipes which are under the dash top. The coil pack and sensors are clear of the bonnet.

I will be disassembling enough so as to be able to tidy up and paint the inner wings.

It will be insured for an agreed value, which has yet to be assertained.

Insure it now on an Accidental damage fire and theft laid up basis now. You'd be sick if there as a fire!

Mind you, I would still be pretty sick.

Little by little. Radiator and swirl pot breather pipes made and first fit. A couple of clamps to secure pipes along innner wing have been ordered.

Looks great! What are you estimating the torque and horsepower to be? We turbo'd my old GTi VR6 and it produced 375 ft/lbs of torque which ripped out engine mounts, broke drive shafts... Admittedly it was in the hands of an 18 year old. We also turbo'd my son's 1.6 Miata and no issues... so far. Can't wait until you get this beast on the road! All the best, Dan

The engine is spec'd to 520bhp/450lbft. Using race fuel ups the bhp to 600ish.

Engine mounts are solid and reinforced. Drive shafts designed for 650bhp. Gearbox and diff should also cope with the power.......hopefully

Working on that, as you may have noticed Hoping to keep it as near to 650kg as possible. If I get around to making a carbon front clam and inner wings then it will be nearer 600kg. However, bearing in mind that there are always more bits to be bolted on than you think, if I can keep it below a standard Elan's weight - 700kg, then I will be reasonably satisfied as I have done all I can to keep the weight to a minimum.

Are you going to race it. The CSCC has a great special saloon series .. would be perfect for it .. there is allready a really quick elan racing

Yes, but not roundy roundy . Car is being built primarily for drag racing, but I hope to do some sprints and hillclimbs.

Getting serious now. Started on rough wiring plan that I can discuss with DC Electronics.

An interesting day. Started off with removing the door lock from a soon to be scrapped caravan stored next door as it looked identical to our worn out motorhome one. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same.

I was due to meet David at DC Electronics at 2pm so left earlier so I could pop into the caravan shop in Ulting, but their offerings were no good. Next stop was a quick chat with Geoff Page (my engine guru) prior to meeting David. Geoff said that my car will need to be taken to DCe's place so it can be properly gone over by David and Geoff so they can agree on what needs to be done.

We also decided we would add a G sensor, a steering angle sensor and damper potentiometers. However, we can do away with the speed sensor as we can use one of the wheel sensors.

Met David at 2pm and agreed to the car coming over at the end of August, actual date to be confirmed. I won't know the cost until it has been properly looked at

Next stop was Life Racing in Basildon to drop off my F88 ECU so it can be upgraded to the latest spec. It should be ready in a couple of weeks.

When I got home Julia said that Chris from next door needed my urgent help with an adaptor. Went over to see him and what he wanted was to be able to fit a silencer to a sniper rifle and it had to be done tonight at it was off to the film set early tomorrow morning, so no pressure!

An hour later the silencer was fitted to the rifle The adaptor isn't actually visible as it is double threaded and joins the silencer to an existing adaptor that had a thread matching that on the rifle barrel.

Apparently they do use these, as soon as on target trigger is pulled - dead. But I know nothing about these things, just getting a neighbour out of a hole and getting paid for it
