Looking at trying to create some additional storage for my plus 2 and wondered if anyone has past knowledge if a rack can be fitted to the boot lid and if so, any ideas if one is available or is a home project to make one?

I haven't fitted a luggage rack, but I have much strengthened my boot lid by drilling openings on the inside and injecting expanding foam. When I first got the car there where large circular cracks, looked like elephants had sat on the boot-lid !

I would think a stock commercial chrome rail rack from an MGB or Midget would look far better than any home-made job.

Some of the +2S had a back seat that folded down which is much neater

How about a boot lid 'bag' that straps onto the boot lid?

Why not a roof rack........it even offers 50 /50 weight distribution?

The rear seats' backrest in my +2S folded down to form a parcel shelf, but I went a bit further.

To get the car FIA certified for racing I had to fit a sealed firewall between the passenger compartment and the fuel tank.

So out came the quite heavy rear seat unit.

When I had fitted the firewall I made up two cubby boxes to fit in the rear seat spaces, and fitted a full width lid with beading flanges to stop things sliding about

I used to use a boot rack like this one:

to carry a tent, but I gave it up as the boot hinges are not really strong enough and I couldn't see anything but tent in the rear view mirror.

I still have the rack, but long ago mislaid the two side tensioners.

General Tip for searching the internet.

When you don't know how best to describe an object that you are searching for, put your best effort eg "Boot Rack" in the search box of Google or Duck-Duck-Go and then select IMAGES,

Run your eye down the images and you should soon find what you are looking for amid all the irrelevant items.
