CV joints

I have a set someone upstate NY made for me using VW inner and OUTER shafts and hub in the late '70s. Anyone know what that outer shaft and hub may have come from? I can't find him.

Hi. Try to contact Elantrikbits in New Zealand. They are very friendly. They have some very good ideias to update the Elan. If I am not mistaken their solid driveshafts uses VW cv joints.

Sorry, I don’t have a pic.
It was custom made with a VW inner axel, VW CV joints and an unknown outer axle and tapered hub with a CV mating face on the inside.
I have replaced the inner (differential) and axel with Dave Bean heavy duty units.
I was told the outer shafts and mating flange are Sirocco front axels from the late 70s but I haven’t been able to match them.

Eric,

Most of the CVs of that era used by German manufacturers were GKN Lobro. These CV's apparently fitted the VW scirocco.

It’s not the Cvs I am looking for. It is the outer axle and hub. I haven’t been able to match that up anywhere

I'd have to say just buy a kit or loose parts from one of the usual people. The standard outer axle is used with an adaptor and the inner axle is a custom piece. The CV's are all 4 same type, the common vw/ lobro ones. The axle is a plain shaft splined on each end to fit the cv's

There are multiple commercial versions of the conversion that have been made over the years. Some use the standard diff shafts and outboard shafts with adapters at each end and some replace the diff shafts. No commercial kit that I am aware of changed the outboard shaft due to the challenges of mounting the brake disk on the shaft on the inside of the strut. What was done with yours to achieve that ? Finding what car the modified outboard shaft with CV joint came off will be challenging but it will be a european car of before the time when you think the conversion was done. It will also probably have been a rear wheel drive shaft as the Lobro style CV's if thats what you have normally dont allow enough articulation for the front wheels on a front drive car to be used for the hub shafts
