The energy density of batteries (W/kg) has drastically improved in recent years, lithium versions being 3 to 4 times more efficient than lead. The battery in my car and bike is about 2kg, and cranks 540A if need be... One can even fly on lithium batteries nowadays...

that said, I personally would hesitate to transform such a lovely car as an elan into an electrical forklift.

For now, yes. But someday petrol will get impractical as the rest of the world moves on from it, and by then the electric bits will be a lot more advanced than now. If people are still allowed to drive cars by then, I suspect that bringing old cars up to the standards of that future day will be seriously retro-cool.

Wow, that is heavy. Mine is 980gms :-)
