I've seen the early casting heads

http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listing/4 ... _head.html

but they don't look like that

some kind of weird repro head?

That's the early diecast head in your link that was used as the first production head. Before that Lotus sand cast the prototype heads which I think this is as it is consistent with the comments I have seen written about the prototypes and how they were changed during development. Photographs of the prototype heads are extremely rare does anyone have any?

A picture of this type of engine seems to be in the front of the Mils Wilkins book.

It is at the top of the article from Autocar by Harry Mundy.

It also looks similar to the one on page 21 of Miles Wilkins book showing it in an experimental Lotus-Cortina.

This one appears to have both bridging pieces in the central gulley so is probably an evolution.

Reading the Wilkins book, this appears to be a really early head, like first 10 or something, probably won't fit in the Elan due to overlength intake runners.
