Isuzu trans swap, pics, and ratios

PostPost by: Famous Frank » Fri Sep 06, 2013 4:06 am

OK, I apologize but I still want a 5 speed. A few on the list have stated in the past they acquired and had installed 5 speed transmissions from Isuzu's. I've been reading each night until I fall asleep with my finger doing this to my laptop.ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss etc.

Does anyone have a pic of the installation?

Does anyone have a pic of the transmission they installed?

Any pics of the adapter plate?

And does anyone know the ratios of the Isuzu boxes used?

Many thanks,

Famous Frank

Frank, there's a helluva lot of stuff on here if you do a search.
From memory a fellow Kiwi did the conversion and posted a lot of photos etc. of what he'd done.
I can't be bothered going through all the posts to find the one I'm thinking of, that's your job.... :)

Ralph.

Hi if you are in Sydney you can look at mine. I have the conversion completed a few years ago. Works a treat.

Quick lesson on searching.

Go to the gearbox forum. Use the search within forum feature. It is the search box on the left right above the topic listing. Enter Isuzu and press the search button.

This will give you all occurrences of the word Isuzu in the gearbox/drivetrain section.

I did a quick search and found a good write up on the swap at
lotus-gearbox-f37/detailed-report-five-speed-isuzu-t19828.html?hilit=Isuzu.

Hi Frank I did a similar conversion to maurice but with adapter plate to fit ford bellhousing.
I used the same gearbox and cut back the isuzu bell useing disc cutter and die grinder -you can get it pretty accurate or get it milled at local engineering shop.
Made a spacer out of 10mm aluminium plate to shape of ford bell and inside to shape of gearbox seal. Holes drilled in ford bell to fix gearbox seal as original.
Driveshaft is original lous with isuzu sliding spline fitted by a cross over universal GM/FORD
Gearlever locates exactly to original and made up of rear suspension bush with 3/8 dia rod welded.
Whole job not hard to do and had no problems since it was done :)
