Wheeler Dealers have in the latest series - in the TR6, I think. Reviewed recently in Practical Classics magazine.

The Science:
Traditional water based coolants regularly cross the thermal boundary that separates efficient Nucleate Boiling (A) from inefficient Critical Heat Flux (CHF). Critical Heat Flux (CHF) is synonymous with the condition ?Departure from Nucleate Boiling? (DNB).

Now my middle name is cynic but doesnt that sound remarkably like the "Science" spouted by the eggheads in lab coats on commercials for womens anti-ageing and wrinkle dissapearing potions?

Any guesses as to what 95% of the volume of this waterless coolant consists of?

Interesting. Mind you ordinary anti-freeze is probably at least as toxic.

I remember back in the 80's a friend tried this. All I can say is I'm very supprised that they are still in business and even more supprised that the likes of Jay Leno, Practicle Classics, and Wheeler Dealers use this. After he had it in his car for 6 monthes he went back to the traditional stuff. Absolutely Hokus Pokus (my opinion) for the premium you pay for this stuff.

What happened after 6 months to make him decide to change back?

It has to have something in it. What are your conclusions?

Taking the Elan into DLF Classic Cars this week to have cooling system flushed and filled with Evans Waterless Coolant.

I have seen the guys selling this 'stuff' at many an auto jumble. At first I was reasonably impressed by their sales spiel but after consideration I thought that if the boiling point is made artificially higher as they claim then this may well harm the engine. I believe that old cars have a way of telling you that things are wrong and boiling over is one of those warnings. If the car overheats there's something wrong with it that needs fixing.
