Insane + 2

I am no fan of swapping the twin cam, but if you must do it, do it with style,

This guy took a Honda s2000 engine instead of the zetec.

see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjZdkEFFv74

No easy job, a major rebuild of the frame in the engine bay was made

Brilliant, I just love people who think outside the box, the purists must tearing the hair out of their beards at this, sorry must not stereotype. Wish I could understand Swedish but pictures tell a thousand stories so I can see what he had to do to achieve it.

The thing with this installation is that it is LHD making the exhaust route easier to manage, I am sure a RHD would be possible but considerably more difficult.

I have toyed with the notion of fitting a Cosworth YB into a +2, originating from 28 years ago, but never got around to it, I haven't given up though and will consider a Honda as an alternative. I am no stranger to the virtues of a Honda, in 2007 I installed a Honda K20A into the back of my Exige, fantastic engines.

Lots of fun, I hope it gets finished so that the doors lock and the interior gets trimmed. But the passengers feet will always be warm :)

I liked the last comment on the Swedish forum
Bara att ?ka ner p? Svensk Sportvagnsmeeting och k?ra och skr?mma slag p? eventuella purister!

roughly translated I think it means " I must now go to a classic car meeting and terrorise the purists!"

Wish I could understand Swedish

If you are using Google Chrome you get the option to translate to English when you open the page.

The guy says

The world's ugliest pop-up lamp, I think sitting on 928 from Stuttgart, but the question is whether the second place goes to the Lotus Elan +2 . Have you seen anything so ridiculous?

   Does he not know that we do not drive these cars in the dark or the rain?

I can add that the owner was very attracted by the + 2 in general, but his example was already heavily damaged and badly fixed, with the original engine beeing very feeble

Very impressive. I wonder if a spyder frame would have made the conversion any easier.

Love it!
But was the guy trying to donut around the place or was he just trying to park, but just couldn't control it?!

Sounds good as well.

Dan,
Having some little experience of getting Spyder frames converted for odd engines I can say that the S2000 complete with it's gearbox just won't fit without major surgery, I had a complete unit for "evaluation" and the surgery to the frame and the body made it a no going back type of conversion. What seems to have happened here is that front and rear sections have been retained and the middle has been fabricated on the Spyder Spaceframe pattern to suit the engine and gearbox. I read through the whole thread and enjoyed the pictures and agree it's a very impressive piece of fabrication, but I wonder if the owner is too impatient to get it running before finishing the car properly. The gear lever looks a long way back.

BTW: My S4 can do smoking doughnuts all day long until the tyres burst, but I'm not that much of a hooligan.
Kindest regards
