Since I posted this I have found out that I don't need one using flappy paddles and pneumatic shifting :-)

Car is now away being completely rewired. This has given me the opportunity to build a bigger prepreg carbon/aramid curing oven. I decided on 6' x 6' x 3' as a complete flip front will fit in this :-)

Constructiuon is (from outside) plywood, 50mm Cortex, plywood, double sided insulation blanket.

Heat is provided by 150w bulbs on two circuits. One circuit will be on permanently during curing supplying the base temp of around 80 deg C. A second runs of bulbs will be thermostatically controlled, allowing various temperatures (80-150) to be maintained. A couple of fans will circulate the air. I have placed temp sensors around the oven so I can monitor the temp, making sure that I am getting an even heat.

Steve, I?m shocked you don?t do your own wiring? You seem to have the skills to do just about everything else :D

Not bad for an electrical idiot. The wires will be tidied up and hidden behind heat insulating tape. What isn't visible are the fans and a pair of 750w ceramic heaters that are thermostatically controlled so I can maintain any temp my heart (or prepreg) desires.

Hi Glen

Around 35 years ago I rewired the Elan after a serious fire. One wire at a time it was pretty straightforward. However, all it had was a distributor, fuel pump, lights, horn plus a few gauges and sensors. This time around we have an ECU with dozens of wires, 8 injectors, three fuel pumps, Power Distibution Module, electronic dash with 14 wires, nitrous, parachute release, fire suppression system, Throttle-by-Wire, launch and traction control, pneumatic gear selection and flappy paddles, lighting and around 16 sensors. I wouldn't know where to start. Sometimes it is best to leave certain jobs to experts who have the experience, skills and necessary tools to do the job properly.

The car came back from the wiring place on Monday. The design is almost done but I lost my building slot. They have an LMP car coming in for a 5 week build so I have been put back until that (far more important) job has been completed.

Disappointing, but we have made quite a few changes and working out how to accommodate the plethora of sensors along with the nitrous strategy has taken time. Not all is lost, however. I am working on adding the nitrous strategy switch to the steering wheel so the wiring for this section can be built ready for when the car returns (hopefully in early December). Also, I can get on with the bodywork.

Re the nitrous switch, David from DCe gave me a 6 postion switch but no knob, so I have just knocked one up on the lathe and mill.

Started on the task of fitting the exhaust box and shield. First fit to confirm that it will actually fit. Need to elongate the hole in a bracket so I can pull the exhaust pipe over a tad but, apart from that, it seems to fit.

Next job is to drill holes through the sill in order to secure the box. Then I have to work out how to attach the shield in a way that it is removable and tidy up the front end. Do I leave it open to improve air flow or blend it into the body?

Fitted fire extinguisher button into dash panel, replacing an existing, but unused, warning lamp. Now all I need is the system to go with it :-)
