1971 Lotus Elan S4 Coupe. This was an incredible find. The car is virtually all original: paint, interior engine chassis, trim, glass etc. all as delivered. The car was purchased in the Cleveland area by the original owner who kept the car until the early 2000's. Somewhere in the 70's at about 35K miles, he had the motor rebuilt and hotted up, the chassis pulled and epoxy coated with all new stuff underneath. Apparently due to some untraceable malady he parked it in his controlled shop and left it. It was discovered by a local Lotus club person, exhumed and seviced in the early 2000's. The problem was apparently a vacuum leak of some sort which was quickly sorted. Some other work, including a carb rebuild, twin cooling fans and alternator conversion was done and that was about it. I purchased it from the second owner and have done a serious amount of work to it to make it really roadworthy. The list: Complete engine check and full service, new tires, complete Tony Thompson adjustable suspension, alignment and balance, complete brake rebuild with calipers, pistons, pads and rebuilt (White Post) master cylinder. RD Enterprises' rear axle kit, re hung exhaust and a host of other stuff. For all of which I have receipts. Lights etc. all work. It needs an e-brake assembly. You can have what few e-brake parts I have, but will need the handle. All original parts, jack Nader nuts etc. will go with the car. I have the original ball shaped shift knob which will be installed. This is a very quick, excellent performing Elan that has never been restored or messed with. I doubt there are many like that around. The paint is not great, with some chips and stains. But it is not bad, never hit. I bought it for the originality and that it is identical to my convertible and only 50 or so numbers away. But one Elan is enough as I've been offered another interesting project. Really am not crazy about selling, it is more for the space and attention to the new project than the $$. I wanted to offer it here first, but will be putting it on ebay in week or two's time depending on response. There is at least $40k in him now with the price and the parts and the labor. I will entertain all ORS (Offers of a Reasonable Size), You won't get a better deal by waiting for ebay. And they are only original once. The longer I hold on to him the less flexible I'll become. I REALLY do not want to go the auction route. This is a neat car and ready to go. I can take any pictures you'd like and will be glad to discuss. Please, contact me only if you are interested. I am old and grumpy. I would really appreciate day time phone calls, 240-626-9032 EST.
