Correct - it's a Lotus Elan 1600, which is a Lotus Type 26 car and all Type 26s have a roadster body

The Road & Track December '63 road test called it
Lotus Elan 1600
I don't care what they called it, it's still not a drop-head! DHC isn't a name, it's a type of construction.

It iis indeed a type 26 1600 ROADSTER as is my '63 #26/0538. I bought mine new from the factory.
However!!!!! The dash guages are chrome rimmed where as the 1600 / S1's instruments are black rimmed.
I suspect that the gauges have been replaced and are from a later Series 2 car - in which case the milage may be suspect .
Also Series 1 roadsters had rivits in the wood rimed steerng wheel, I cant tell from the photo tho.
Lovely car tho!!!

Further research with the help of another forum member indicates my car has a Lotus replacement body shell. As others are saying, a Bourne body would have ridges in the footwells,
Regarding the car listing, I readily defer to others who know far more about Lotus history than I.
Would this cover it correctly?

Adding roadster is a bit redundant but will help those (like me) who are less familiar with the details.

Correct. Hayes Harris made a favorable offer and I've sold the car to Wire Wheel.
My job has me traveling every week so I had very little time to show and sell the car.

Same car states SOLD at Wirewheel. Older Loti seem to sell fast.

GLWS!
I wish you were closer, I need a reference car when reassembling mine! Mine will one day, hopefully be identical to yours! I'm in the other end of the state, Wilmington. Hopefully mine will be roadworthy in time to head to Asheville for LOG next year!
Again, GLWS!
