The time has come... I need to part with my white S2 Elan. 80,000 original miles, California car, I'm the 3rd owner, all receipts, very original car with rare gray crash pad, console and white door panels.

The car is unrestored and has not been driven in a few years, but covered and garaged. Here then is a conservative description of the condition of the car.

The Elan is badged as an S2, it a very early S2 it has S1 brakes (smaller front calipers) and S1 tail lamps. It has the full width S2 dash. So, it's often referred to as an S1.5.

Everything is original, body, engine, tranny, diff, suspension, brakes, exhaust, upholstery, crash pad (no cracks), bolt-on wheels (no cracks), hub caps. The only thing I've changed are the rubber brake lines (braided) and the clutch hose (braided). I bought the car about 18 years ago. It had been stored since the 80's. I freshened the head, did the brakes, replaced all the suspension bushings and the doughnuts. I put new tires on it, Bridgestone RE91s, 165/65x13. I then drove the car for about 10 years and parked it about 3 years ago when the clutch started slipping. The car has not been restored other than an engine rebuild by the original owner and the brakes and suspension rebuild I did.

Paint & body - The car sustained some minor body damage at the front right corner and there's a crack about 2" long at the headlight opening. The front part of the car has been resprayed as a part of the body work done to fix the impact. Everything else is straight, but the paint is at 30-40+ years old so there's plenty of "patina". Headlight vacuum pods and mechanism still work and hold for a reasonable amount of time! There's no chassis damage.

Interior - The car has some unique features. It has a rare gray interior and gray crash pad with white door panels. There are no tears, but there's a 2-3" long split seam on the driver's seat. Original wood steering wheel, shift knob and uncracked dash and all the instruments work! I bought a new tonneau cover, but the top (hood) was in poor shape and I've not replaced it. It too was gray. I still have the 2 metal hoops, but I can't seem to find the Cantrails.

Engine, Tranny, Diff, Driveline - The engine probably needs to be freshened. It was starting to burn a bit of oil when I parked it. The clutch needs to be replaced and the clutch hydraulics rebuilt. The doughnuts are now at least 15+ years old so it would be prudent to replace them or convert to CVs.

At this point the car needs a good home. I don't have the time to do the mechanical restoration it needs and I have the opportunity to buy back my Seven from the guy I sold it to. I have my restored red '66 Elan S2, so I don't really need 2 Elans and having my Seven back would be sweet!

I'm asking $22,000, but will consider offers.

Car is located in Palo Alto California.
