1968 S4 Coupe

This is not my car. I am advertising it for a friend. I have never seen the car but I will do my best to answer questions.

The engine was done by Dave Bean but has never been started. The rest of the car is ready for a full restoration. For starters, it certainly could use a thorough cleaning! Located in Knapp, Wisconsin.

Can't seem to get more than one picture on here. If you're really serious, send me your direct email address and I will attach photos.

$14,000 US.

Hi Frank, what the heck is this. The ad reads like a meth scam.
How can you answer questions about a car you haven't seen?

Sincerely, Eric

Here I was trying to scam the whole Lotus Elan community and you caught me dead to rights. It's hard to slip one by you. Good work Eric!

Hi Frank, sarcasim? I'm not sure where this thread lies. Are you scamming us or not?
The link Mike provided is a dead end?
Advertising a car one has never seen is a sticky wicket.
Still Sincerely, Eric

Eric,

I'm trying to help a friend who can't manage to register on LotusElan.net. I'm doing the best that I can, being honest and up front, voluntarily disclosing the fact that I have never seen the car. You come in an accuse me of attempting to scam the Lotus Elan community. If I was attempting to run a scam, I wouldn't have disclosed the fact that I have never seen the car. Your accusation is offensive and hurtful.

Hi Frank, Eric and Mike,

You guys are all correct. Frank nice to offer to help a freind with the post but Eric is correct in pointing out it is hard to represent a car not seen and Mike yes it seems to have been posted several times.

Frank you are late with that picture as your freind cleaned it up in the latter ebay post. I think he was looking for about 18K? I read the post and thought someone will need to think long and hard as it has been sitting still for sometime now.

I wish your freind good luck and hope he finds a buyer this time around.

Mark

Mark,

I agree that it is hard to represent a car not seen, but that is not what Eric said. He didn't say, "Frank, it must be hard to represent a car that you have never seen." He said, "The ad looks like a meth scam." He also asked, "Are you scamming us or not?" That is hurtful.

Thats the funny thing about posting on public forums, not everyone reads post the same way. You guys have both been around this site for a long time and should have some understanding of each other.

We all mean well and I know you are just helping out a fellow Lotus owner.

Eric, your turn!

Hi Frank, Mark and Mike,
I agree, a problem with posting on public forums is that people read them, and just like people are people, they perceive things differently.
Frank, nothing I wrote was hurtful, lousy humor perhaps, I'm sorry if you feel hurt by my words. You and I have exchanged ideas for years, my questioning was that your "endorsement" of this Elan for sale was that you had never seen it ? ? ? questionable, and the lack of pics and links....
May I add, I'm still totally confused by the eBay links so graciousally provided by other members, I couldn't get a single one to function. WHAT does this Elan look like?
I love this website.
I love Lotus Elans.
I love the naivetivity of Lotus Elan.net and that ever elusive Lotus +2.
Let's all grow old together.

Volley, hit, Eric

Eric,

You broadcast to the Lotus Elan community that my ad "...reads like a meth scam", you ask "Are you scamming us.." and then you say:

1964 S1 wrote:Frank, nothing I wrote was hurtful...
Are you kidding me? If you can't see why that's hurtful, I feel sorry for you. Regardless, you can't tell me what's hurtful to me. Only I can know what's hurtful to me.

1964 S1 wrote:my questioning was that your "endorsement" of this Elan...
Despite your use of parenthesis, you are putting words in my mouth as I never endorsed it. Did you hear me say that the car is perfect and ready for Pebble Beach? My exact words were "The rest of this car is ready for a full restoration". Ready for a full restoration. What does ready for a full restoration mean? It means that everything needs to be done to this car. How is that an endorsement?

As far as a lack of photos is concerned, my exact words were, "Can't seem to get more than one picture on here. If you're really serious, send me your direct email address and I will attach photos."

Eric. Are you interested in purchasing this car? If so, send me your direct email address and I will attach photos. If not, I suggest you move on to a different thread.

I just found it and put the auction up in my prior reply. Looking at the license plate frame the car may have lived eight miles from me at one time. I would like a FHC Elan but the car appears to need much money and an engine re-build some time ago and never run make me stand offish...........
Since a nice one can be had for 30K and this one needs what...............20K or more? I'm fishing because I am certainly not an expert.

Hope this wasn't offensive..............

Regards,
Mike

The car has been sold to Jim Gordon. He has in turn put it up for sale. See his November 19 2012 listing in the For Sale section entitled "Elan SS FHC".
