Lotus Elan

Insurance Valuation

PostPost by: Bahamayellow » Fri Oct 25, 2024 3:48 pm

Hello I am having trouble getting an updated Insurance Valuation done for my 1971 Elan Sprint.

I used to enjoy a road trip on a Friday morning drop in to see Paul Matty give him a tenner for charity and he value the car in return and have a cup of tea.

Now he's not operating anymore I am having a right palava getting this done. Does anyone on here do the valuations? Happy to donate to the forum or a charity. I'm not being a cheapstake but wanted to avoid joining anymore clubs as I seem to have subscriptions coming out of my arms especially on the motorsport side and motorcycles

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

Mike

I am with Hagerty in UK. For agreed value insurance, you give them a figure you want, and a mileage limit and they give you a price for insurance. The Hagerty website has a very good valuation tool to help you determine your car's value based on model year and condition . No faffing needing independant valuation. The more you want if the car is a write off and the more you want to drive it, the higher the price they quote you for insurance. If you accept and pay the premium, you send them the requisite photos of your car and they confirm the agreed value...No problem..! Tony

Hi Mike,
We were just taking about this here in France. In general you need to pay an Expert here which costs about 300 €uros. Which is not cheap and is ok then for several years or when it needs to be updated.
For sure you don't see any poor Insurance Guys lol.

Hi Mike,
I have used Routen Chaplin for 13 years now. Straight foreword simple and friendly.
Agreed valuation at £30,000, buy back option if considered too expensive to repair, 3000 miles, garaged at night unless away from home, UK and Europe recovery.
Six photos required with no inspection or valuation for £180.00 per year. Must be a member of a car club.
I have never used their services.

Thanks Guys I am suprised it is not done on here as most forums offer a valuation subject to a donation for the upkeep of the forum or events.

My view is it is between £35 - £40k for a good condition Elan Sprint

For value imho you need far more details than good condition.
I think it's far too light for 6 photos and some bills.
Many things need to be taken into account.
But who am i to say i've just sold my Sprint.
