Lotus Elan

Batterie for S2 Elan original box

PostPost by: Emma-Knight » Sat Aug 10, 2024 12:54 pm

I am still looking for a suitable (preferably gel) Batterie that will fit in the good old behind the seat batterie box of the S2 Elan.
With more than 16 or 20 Ah, if possible… I browsed the forum but… :?

Just from my memory, I used a Group 26R batter y at my last replacement. Dimension are Length 8.8125 x Width 6.8125 x Height 8. The "R" reverses the terminals as I changed by Elan to Negative ground/earth. This is a common size battery and can be found as a AMG.

When I started driving my Elan 1600 I used a battery same as a Mazda MX5 Miata. Last time I went to replace it the guy at the battery store said he would need to order one, $120 but he had a lawn and garden tractor battery of nearly identical size and cold cranking anps. Just different lugs. $50 He gave me a set of lugs to fit my cables and battery. 3 years ago and has been perfect. Can't tell you the exact number as it is under the cover but should not be hard to find. I'll never go back. Gary

Odyssey batteries are great- I've been using them in motorcycles for almost twenty years and in my Plus 2 for eight years. Highly recommended!

I have used the Odyssey PC680 in my Elan for many years without issue. While it has great starting power its a relatively small battery in terms of Amp hours so if your car needs a lot of cranking to start if you are using the orginal mechnical fuel pump then a larger one may be better. Odessy make a range of sizes and you may find a suitable sized one on their web site that will fit in the battery box

cheers

Odyssey 925 is a great battery and should fit. I have Odysseys in all my cars.
