Please, please, can anyone suggest a person or garage around Cardiff who would know how to set the valve timing (MOP etc.) on a twin cam?
The engine is not in the car yet so ideally someone who can do a home visit!
Thanks in advance.
Ps I have the books but I cannot seem to get any agreement with reality from them.

There is lot of really good stuff on the net about cam timing, although it takes a bit of digging to find it. I am by no means an expert, but I taught myself enough about cam timing by watching Youtube videos and reading up on the subject to feel comfortable timing my twinc.
One of the problems is that there is a lot on nonsense out there as well, sometimes in books. Even the cam manufacturers publish conflicting information and can't seem to agree about specific timing data.
I assume you want to vernier / offset dowel time your engine to get it exactly right rather than just use the timing marks to get it to near enough? If so, I wouldn't give up on DIY, the information is out there.

Do you mean you can't get any agreement on the timing figures or the timing method.
I've done this a few times and it's not really difficult, just a bit fiddly.

Both really.
If I just directly check what the dial/protractor says when the back inlet is max open it says 102, pretty much what the longer method of finding when it starts to open, finishes closing, add, halve, subtract one initial value etc.
But the exhaust valve always seems to come up with 285 directly, and other nonsense with the Wilkins method.

One area the Miles Wilkins book does well is describe how to set the cams on the Twin Cam. You really don't need any other source of information.
