Fitting new handbrake cable, is there a trick?

I figured I would fit it the reverse of how the old one came out. So starting at the front, and feeding the rear end of the cable through the threaded hole in the engine mount bracket.

But it won’t fit. It looks like I’d have to grind a lot of metal off the rear cable fitting, which I wont do without talking to Ken at DBE. Am I missing something?

Is the nipple on the other end smaller? I'm guessing 'no' or you'd have it fed in already. Will be following
this.

It’s a lot smaller, but you can’t install from that end because the outer sheath isn’t removable and won’t fit through the nut either.

I got a response from Ken. The bullet at the rear of the cable should be .315. The one he sent me is .375. So, bad cable.

I’ve had that issue before, I’ve reduced the diameter on a pedestal grinder. Takes a couple of minutes.
