No idea - it appears to be bolted to a core plug ?

Maybe coolant temperature or perhaps a knock sensor ?

Was it actually wired up to anything ?

cheers

I really can remember, I took the original engine out about 12 years ago. It’s going to go back in at some point.
Looks like it’s in the water jacket, I never had and advanced fuel injection on car.
Maybe someone else has see these before!
Thanks
James

Living in the UK, I thought block heaters were some quaint American invention, designed to part fools from their money.

I then lived in Minneapolis for a while. It can get down to -30C in the winter.

The company I worked for had a parkland office complex away from the city. The multistorey carpark associated with the offices had power outlets next to each bay to plug your block heater into. Around 'going home time', vans would patrol the parking lot with generators, jump cables and large starting batteries to get cars going that had succumbed to the cold.

I became a convert to block heaters.

I used my Elan year round for several years when I first came to Canada. A block heater was the only way to be able to start the car in the cold winter days.

A block heater was my first thought as well, despite the fact that I've lived in the sub-tropical southern states all my life.
