Morning All,

Someone told me that number plate recognition systems such as ANPR, congestion charge, ULEZ etc. can't read black and silver number plates. Anyone know if this is true?

Also, I was told that speed cameras can't read the front numbers when they are on the radiator grill (obviously a front facing camera). Is this true?

Just wondering.

Nick

I don't know about Black and Silver , but I've spent many a happy hour driving on the Motorway , shall we say , enthusiastically , especially where there are temporary speed limits with no work being done...

Just beware of cameras on the overhead gantries looking for your rear numberplate..

John ;-)

P.S.
Maybe modern cameras can't understand the old format? I once went into a carpark and the entry camera couldn't find my car by reg number ??

If only.....

Read the letter at the bottom of the story. Looks like the writer is speaking from (painful) experience.

Cars over 40 years old and registered as “historic“ are exempt from ULEZ.

True but Supermarket parking fines are not exempt and the magnitude is Much, Much bigger than the ULEZ fee.
