Lotus Elan

A Small Bit of Self Promotion

PostPost by: Ross Robbins » Thu Dec 02, 2021 6:23 pm

In my little blog called Cross Country Elan I tried to capture the planning for and the taking of a trip of a lifetime in an old small car, my S2 Elan. Once I actually embarked on the trip, I made a post every day to capture what happened and where I went. As a result, over the six weeks of the trip I had accumulated enough content that I thought it might make a book
.
So I began the rewrite of the blog content from https://xcountryelan.com/ into a coherent whole. The book is called, Cross Country with Elan. Of course, much of the content is identical, the rest only slightly modified to make it read more smoothly rather than standing alone as individual blog posts. On the other hand it is much easier to read in the loo!

Now you might want a copy of the finished product. Just in time for holiday gift giving it is done and available on Amazon for a mere $19.95 with lots of colored maps and photos. It is also available on other Amazon sites in the UK and Europe with similar pricing in pounds or Euros.

Should I wait for the LOG for an autographed copy?

Greg,

That will be a long wait at best and Ann and I have not yet committed to come to WV so if you have even the slightest inclination to own a copy then buy one and whenever we next meet I will autograph it however you wish. Then think of all the enjoyment you'll have in the meantime.

Thanks to you all who have mentioned ordering the book: Mazzini, Greg and Slowtus. With a sales boom like this I may make the top five million list of best sellers!

And with the royalties, I can take my wife to a fine sit down dinner. At McDonald's. If we stick to the dollar menu.

… and order in hand, great presentation, now to wrap it as a Santa gift and to look astonished as it re-appears on the 25th.
Thanks Rob.

Hi Ross

Love the blog and the creation of the book - I'm going to post details onto the Facebook Group for those interested in early Elans (this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/663336827512525 or search 'Lotus Type 26').

There are almost 1000 members of the group in over 50 countries so I'm sure this will generate interest for many people.

Thanks again.

Well I just found this topic again. I thought it had been deleted for shameless commercialism but it was only moved by a moderator I guess. And thank you David for sharing it on Facebook though I will never see it there as I don't do Facebook

I would like to thank all of you who have bought the book and really would like to know your thoughts after reading it. If you hate it (a distinct possibility) please let me know via PM or email at lotusross at comcast dot net with your specific critique and maybe I can edit and improve it with a new edition. If, on the other hand, you love it ( a far less likely outcome) please post your review on Amazon for the whole world to see!

If that has not got me banned from this forum, a fate I probably deserve, I wish you all happy holidays and safe journeys in 2022. Maybe this little book will inspire you to get out and Drive your Elan.

Hi Ross- I read/enjoyed parts of your blog and am looking forward to your book-just ordered it. You definitely have a pair of brass ones to pull off a drive like this. I agonize over a 90 mile roundtrip in my 69 S4! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

Cheers, Mark Whitaker
