Are 701M blocks actually worth anything more?

PostPost by: berni29 » Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:24 pm

Hi

I have been looking at some +2's, with a view to purchase recently, and one has a rebuilt engine with new standard size QED pistons. It is a 701M block. What extra value, if any, should I ascribe to it having that block?

Many thanks

Zetec+ 2 under const, also 130S. And another 130S for complete restoration. Previously Racing green +2s with green tints. Yellow +2 and a couple of others, all missed. Great to be back 04/11/2021 although its all starting to get a bit out of control.

If it's a 701 'L' block then they are quite rare, being used mainly on Escort Twincams. If it's a 701 non-'L' block then it's common! I don't know the values though.

Hi Guys

Thank you for the replies. It seems it does not make much difference to the value. My search for the "right" car continues!

All the best

Oh yes Phil, I had my Ford hat on then! Any idea when the 701 started to be used on Elans? I've had 3 1970 Elans and a '71 Plus 2 all of which had 681 blocks. One of the Elans and the Plus 2 may well have had replacement engines though!
