Gearbox / diff rebuild options

After a 60 mile drive in my S4 yesterday the various noises from the gearbox and the diff have convinced me it's time for some winter surgery. The diff needs a rebuild with new bearings and seals plus an expert eye cast over its internals in case anything else is going on. Any suggestions as to where I should take it. I'm based near Oxford (UK) so reasonably convenient for most places.

Next, the gearbox. Second and third gears are getting very noisy so I suspect a layshaft bearing is on the way out. If I have to take it out I'm tempted to go down the five speed route while I'm at it. For once money isn't the limiting factor (it was my wife who suggested it!) and Alan Voight's would seem to be the one to go for. Anyone know what the delay is on his boxes at the moment? Anything else I ought to consider if I do go that route?

Sounds unanimous! I’ll make contact and see how it goes. It’ll be a winter months project so no huge rush. Any thoughts on the 5 speed option?

Agree fully. Promoter rebuilt my diff and gearbox earlier this year and I can’t shout his praises loudly enough, well worth the double round trip from Dorset.

I am confused.

"A promoter is a sequence of DNA needed to turn a gene on or off. "

Who on earth is this chap? D

Al` ( & his family of exceptional Engineers ) is Highly Recommended !

If your Diff` needs a lot of love ( they usually do ) ... I have some spares , including a new 3.54 that Al` built for me during the lockdowns ;-)

Paul .

Alternatives are Road and Race in Kent for both diff and gearbox https://www.rrtransmissions.com/about and BGH Geartech for Ford derived gearboxes http://www.bghgeartech.co.uk/html/contact.html

I have used both and found them very helpful (but I can see Promotor is very popular too!)
