yes - sorry - i have no idea it was race prepared. just raced at some point.

Back in the day (sensitive souls need turn away now) I would look for and find Plus 2s and ahem...distribute their parts to needy souls.

Why? They were cheap and I could typically sell just the engine for more than I paid for the whole car - and I did.

But I wish, now, that I had not, for all the good reasons and I suggest you NOT do what I did.

Sensitive souls may now continue reading.

I agree. Keep it together and sell it on BaT, unless you decide to keep it and restore it yourself. Please take some photos and post here. I would think someone on this forum will offer you a fair price.

Ergo, one assumes the car has been sold.

Fellas, I haven't had a chance to look at any details. It was pushed too close to the front of the garage and could not see the front end or lift the hood. I am unsure what the already sold comment means, I haven't assessed it. I have a 79 911 Targa and formerly a few other cars - I will be poking around this car, looking for advice and community, and perhaps will sell. However the still shot of Emma Peel next to hers makes me want to keep this.

Finally got the Elan home. More photos to follow. You can still see the outline of the original British tag numbers on the front. Possible to trace the original owner?

Welcome to the forum JCS!

Looks like a nice fairly complete restoration job you've managed to get there!
All of us on the other side of the pond would probably bite your hand off for a project like this, far fewer early S1 & S2 cars turning up for restoration over here. Especially as yours is RHD.

Look forward to hearing more about it.

Seems like a promising project...

you may find the VIN number on the chassis (stamped on the horizontal fold nearby the engine mount), and possibly an engine number stamped on the flat underneath teh carbs (possibly the body "dymo" number imprinted into the firewall, too), from these numbers some origin infos may be derived.

There is an ID plate. Looks like Unit number 4681, Chassis number 2611681 (maybe). Engine code below head: 26E004. Prior registration in the UK: EVA 56C, Michael John Ball,, Yate, Bristol, England.

Chassis number is likely also 4681. To verify, check the horizontal chassis flange just in front of the right hand motor mount. The stampings were often not very deep, but some light sandpaper work can make it visible.

Well, its not like you've sunk a fortune into it, if you were to keep it as a project for yourself. Looks like you've got some shop space.
