Hi Peter
As if you haven't got enough to do with your Plus 2!

Elan projects do come up from time to time but are rarely below 12k - you need to keep your eyes open and strike quickly. Look at completed listings on ebay to check current prices (and look at international sales not just ebay.co.uk). Shipping one in from the States or Australia is easier than you'd think and costs around 1K so not outrageous - and there are a lot more over the pond. Easy to convert to rhd as well....

Hello Matt, funny you should say that, a friend has found a lovely bottle green s4 in the Netherlands, I am awaiting a price. It is in untouched condition.
Best regards, Peter

Thanks mate, not sure if I can really get one but it's always worth a go. I have a back up plan but it is even more risky! The plan is to build a replica of my dream car, the Lotus 19 Buick!

I think it depends on what you call a project car.
I for one don?t think the purchase of a crashed chassis and body constitutes a project car, and I wouldn?t pay much for a car in that shape.
On the other hand, I?m not sure what the selling price is for Elans these days. The price of older cars keeps going up dramatically.
My S1 Elan is dismantled as I am refinishing the body, and although it needs some parts, such as a new instrument panel, I don?t think the price for those sorts of parts is too high, not to be able to replace them.
If your idea is to find a runner, but one in dire need for a complete cosmetic restoration (not a shattered wreck), and you plan on doing it yourself; go for it. You can end up with a very nice car for your labor; just start looking, but not in the high end magazines.
Look at the YouTube videos of the Elan restoration for inspiration.
Good luck.

My own project was $10k in MA, USA, with few reusable parts, though the unobtainable detail parts were generally present. This situation provided the opportunity to order max TTR parts and then fill in the blanks. John

I've had quite a lot of interest in my S4 project. I'll be discussing with my family over Christmas and deciding if I'm going to sell. If I do decide to sell, I'll respond to all those who have sent me PMs before advertising.

I can't compete with other people's bids. Sorry.

Peter

I'll be looking for a good home for it rather than maximum cash, although it would be silly to undersell it. If those who have been in contact offer a sensible figure I will sell to them rather than put it onto the open market. I still have to decide what to do.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest in my Elan, however, my sons are determined that I do not sell it and want to take it on if I am not able to continue with it.

A friend of mine has just bought a lovely s4 for ?2 560. It has been standing for a few years but it's got all of the parts with it. How he did it, I don't know but we are talking about the bargain of the century. I was gutted to miss out on that one.
