Hi Glen,
Welcome, a fine project indeed you have there. Looking forward to seeing your progress. My S3 is just a few cars ahead of yours, 36/5712.
I showed my wife the glimpses of your garage and explained ?you see, I told you, everybody has a work space like this!?

Hello Malcom, yes I am so very proud to have this particular car. It took a lot of searching to find.

Hi Glen, welcome looks like you have found a belter of a coupe to restore.
I now need to show my better half a pic of your garage as she seems to believe that garages are useful storage for gardening stuff!
(How many plant pots are too many???)

glennmoule wrote:Hi, I am chasing a pair of original seats. Does anyone know where I may find these?
They can be in need of restoration, I do not mind.

This may not fit with your originality ethos but brand new replica frames are available from a forum member in Lancashire
( greg40green ) although I have no personal experience of the frames.
Trim kits are also available to finish them off from the likes of Paul Matty.

Good luck with the rebuild

Mel

Thanks Mel, I already have a replacement chassis but I cannot resist making the original good.

Looks like a great project Glenn. And having the garage space to work on your restoration makes it even better (white tile floors?). You look extremely organized which helps the restoration process go much faster. I did my first frame off restoration (Elan S1) in a year using only weekends in my spare time.

Enjoying the photos of your progress. I?m happy to watch someone else find all the small wonders of these cars while they take them apart. I?m in the midst of my fourth restoration (Lotus Europa this time) and still marvel (sometimes curse) at the engineering and simplicity.

Hi Glen, may not have been clear enough, but I was referring to seat frames made to the original pattern : greg40green makes them.

If you are not likely to use your replacement chassis frame then the sales bit on here is probably as good a place as any to advertise it directly.
What type is it?

Thanks Mel, yes the seat frames (of course!). I will get in touch with them.

The chassis is from a 68 elan that did 10,000 miles. I had it checked by Spyder and painted. It is a perfect chassis to use.

68 is the same age as mine.. S3 SE DHC.

Mine has had a repair for corrosion at the front at some point in the past and now appears solid. Agree with what Paul H says about the engine mounting points though, they do crack..
Yet to decide on whether I swap to a 26R type chassis at some point in future.. part of me likes the idea of an upgrade and the other likes the originality..

Mel

The three repairs the chassis will be getting are new engine mounts, front turrets and modify the small welded lower crossmember to a bolt on type.
Nothing else needed which I am happy about.

Engine dismantle starts this weekend.

That is a lovely looking S1. Exactly what was paint code that you used for the BRG?
And a two poster, you have treated yourself!

Cheers Glen..
I will pass the message on, though don't think it will have any influence...
Have fun with the engine strip..
In between the GP coverage it seems my weekend will be dedicated to staining the fence..

Hello, does anyone have a 23D4 distributor that is dated before 5/66 that they want to sell?
