Buonasera !
Step by step I?m reassembling my Lotus Elan S4 .
Last surprise are the two rectangular opening on the inner edge of the boot lid, but not the two opening with thread that are clearly for the two lights of the registration plate.
Have a look of this pic, they are marked with red arrow
Anybody knows what these opening are used for?
Do y have to close them?

mine have the 2 extra holes just like that... maybe there was a thought of fitting inside boot lights or letting light through the holes? these holes come in handy when you let the other end of the loom go and you have to fish for it...

These holes are merely access holes to be able to hold the Tinnerman nuts on the inside of the Hella registration number lamps, when the screws go thru the lamp body, thru fiberglass deck lid and the nut is then inserted on the backside of the lamp. These holes are also used for access for the wiring to plug onto the lamp terminals and the ground (black) wire to be attached under the nut mentioned above. so the lamps are grounded.
