Is my Lotus Elan s3 a racing car?

Hello, I have just joined the forum after reading many articles posted by other people. I own a 1967 Elan s3 which is believed to be an S/E. The car is white and has gold bumpers.
At some point in its life the car was raced, unfortunately I don't have any proof and subsequently wondered if anybody knew anything about my car, its previous registration was MAX 10E and I believe it was wedgwood blue when new!
I have attached a few pictures as well so everybody can se what It looks like. My father and I have been lovingly restoring the car for the past two years and it is really starting to look good. I would love to hear opinions of other ?lan owners.
Best regards,

Peter

Hi, here are a few more pictures.
I will be hill climbing the car in around July for the Loton park driving school and I am looking forward to putting it through it's paces.

Hi, does anybody know where I can buy some seat covers and door cards for the car as the interior is the original and would look better with new panels, would be glad of any advice and thoughts.
P.S. I am glad everybody seems to like the car!!!!!
Thanks

Peter

Looks really good! However, being an SE, you should have a different color on the cam cover, green, I think.
The blue is for the standard model (non SE)

Correct, and you should have a 4-branch exhaust and a brake servo...etc

If you mention the Unit/chassis number on the plate under the bonnet Tim "trw99" can tell you what it was shipped as.

I have removed the engine pics as they do not show the car in its true form, we have now painted the engine the original colour and everything is as it should be, will try and look into what it was originally but paul matty did say it was an S/E.

To answer your title question about your Elan having race history, it's possible. Perhaps not wheel to wheel circuit racing, but possibly events called "sprints", gymkhanas, or hill climbs. Most Elans have been enjoyed in a sporting manner by their owners. I still autocross my Elan in local club events.

My compliments on a beautiful car. Well done.

Regards,
Dan

Thank you, We feel fairly confident that the car is sound and perhaps it may not be as original as it could be but, we don't care, its a great car that has shared some great memories with us!

Peter,

Sorry to post in what is a very old thread. I have seen an Elan for sale at Paul Matty Sports Cars and believe that it might be your old car from this thread. It is a very long drive for me to go and view the car so I am trying to find out as much as I can before I make the journey. If this is your old car I would greatly appreciate knowing a little more about it, especially what was done during the restoration.

Kind Regards, Chris.

Chris, I still own the car, I can't PM people so if you send me your e-mail I'll tell you as much as I can!
