While going through photo albums of the Woodward Dream Cruise, I spotted this S2. Look to
be a very nice car. Does it belong to a forum member? Or is it known to a forum member?

Greg, The owner is someone I chat with occasionally at car shows on Woodward Ave. I don't know if he is a forum member. His Elan is modified very tastefully I think. I'll look for some pictures that I have of the car.

You're welcome Greg. Next time I see the owner, I'll ask he is a forum member. Maybe he will provide details about the car here before then. He bought it from Lee Chapman Racing if I remember correctly.

Hello,

Chris Young here. I am the owner of the Elan in question.

I've owned it a bit over two years now purchased from Lee Chapman whom ironically I worked for prior to entering Design school. At that time Lee was under VRS and ARI (Automotive Restorations, Inc located in Stratford Connecticut).

As for the Elan, I have always wanted one since I was around 14 years old or so growing up in Pennsylvania. My best friends Father at the time had a TVR Taimar, Lotus 7 and Kyle had a Triumph TR6, then a TVR Vixen and Later t an Opel GT.

While we always hung out at a local import shop called Stockton Automotive I'd run across the Elan from time to time. Further exposure to the Elan and Plus 2 while working for ARI including the assembly of a series 2 prior to my return to classes for the year (and final job and time there) only cemented my goal to own an example one day.

January 2016 my Hemmings "alert" popped up on my phone and when I noted the seller I immediately called and started the process. After Lee and Kent Bain (the owner of ARI) performed a "PPI" and a few adjustments were completed the car was shipped. Upon the arrival, the car matched the description and I dare say it was cleaner underneath than above. lol

Overall I've been very pleased with the Elan and indeed have gone "full circle" from working for the place that often had examples like this in for service to buying from them.

A very pleasant experience indeed.

-C

Do you know what version of BRG was used? Paint code?

Very nice looking car!

Chris, welcome to the forum and a very nice S2! I also used to live in Pennsylavania growing up (near Allentown) and have owned British sports cars since I was a teenager. Owning a Lotus was always on my ?fantasy list? and now that I?m old enough to enjoy my car desires the fantasy has become reality (a number of times over I might add).

I noticed your S2 has a very nice hard top. Would you mind shooting some detailed photos of (1) the inside leading edge where the attachment point is for the bracket that holds the top to the windscreen (2) the rubber molding that is under the top where it sits on the body of the car and if it has any rubber molding on the curved opening for the window. I?m in the midst of restoring a hard top and trying to get some insights as to what these look like completed.

Really nice Elan.

Thank you for the compliment regarding the Elan!

Sure I can take some images and post them That said it appears to be taxing to post images on this particular site.

Usually (on other sites such as Rennlist) I just hit "Img" and then copy paste the address from another site, etc.
I could use the "URL" but I'd rather post a direct image.

Can I post to the photo gallery or is there a member "garage" someplace?

I'm not exactly sure in the paint code but I could inquire to Lee.

Actually, he was supposed to send me samples for the overall body and stripe...lol

I do know it's a pretty "standard" BRG that kent (ARI) used on a regular basis for several projects.

I'll contact Lee and get this information as I really should have it on hand.

Welcome Chris.

Thanks for chiming in. It's always good to see you with the Elan or any of your other cars at Pasteiner's for cars and coffee.
