I'm not fortunate enough to have any of that on my S1 which is still in pieces. Is the window coming down as the car is being driven a problem? For the purpose of keeping people out of the car I'm not concerned. Have never locked a convertible top car in my life since they are so easily opened with a knife.

This runner is on the lock side of the door not the front.
It's the lever that prevents the window from being pushed down and vice versa.

Thank you Gino, as you say, it is lock side with the window lock attached (which mine doesn't have). So the basic metal was fitted on S1?s.

It isn't the visible part with tapers but the assembly in front of that which the panel slots into and the window slides in. Rather a waste of chrome and it didn't preserve mine. My photo shows my replacement in black.

Kurt, the windows don't drop much as they are counter-balanced by the spring in the scissor. I prefer to drive with them down without the top.

This debate is very useful for me and thanks "Meg" for that last photo.

Most of the cars that I have had a look at are either racers with just a pretence of the windows working or too posh to drool over!

Thanks Meg.
Just wondering why frugal Mr Chapman fitted those stop's. As I mentioned, its impossible to keep someone out of a soft top car if they really want in.

Quite a lot about the window locks in this thread.
lotus-chassis-f36/window-lock-t23964.html#p151130
According to Lotus the window locks were fitted to cars with hardtops, My S1.5 did not have the window locks originally but I obtained some parts from a later car with the locks.

Hi Brian,
I have the ones like yours fitted on my S2...

So from what I see Lotus;
A) didn't fit any locks at all
B) fitted the ones as in my pics above with the spring that locates into two top notches and has a threaded hole to fit a toggle lever stem.
C) Fiited the ones like yours and mine that has no top notches and has a permanent stem braized in and toggle switch button separate (glued in place)

I find them very useful as they do prevent the windows from coming down.

And I have also seen that they also fitted two different types of opener handles

Hi Gino,
Maybe Lotus only fitted the window locks when someone ordered a car with a hardtop as the manual says they are used on cars fitted with a with hardtop.
My windows are not loose enough to drop down by themselfs ....they are tight and are quite difficult to move when driving so got to do something about them.
There are two types of inner handles and window lifter pushers, my car has the earlier type which I believe are the S1 type because it being an early S2 ...... known as a S1.5.

Well, I hope I have no problems with the windows coming down while the car is being driven. My S1 doesn't have the window stops but does have a factory hardtop so it does seem another Lotus conundrum or contradiction.
