Were Bourne cars made in LHD or converted?

I have an early car which was originally supplied to the USA - during its strip down for body restoration there may be some evidence it was built for RHD, although it later became LHD.

Does anyone know if the early cars may have been set up for RHD and then converted, either at the factory or local (US) dealer?

Thanks

David

I think most, if not all, Elan bodies had the holes cut for both RHD and LHD, then later in the production process it was decided which car or batches of cars would be built for whichever market.

Bourne bodied cars were sent to the USA and other markets already in LHD form, as far as I am aware. If you look at the attached photo you can see some of the holes in place on the Bourne production line, though I'm not sure it proves much!

Basically, as we know, the bodies were fairly simple and it was easy enough to make a mould that could then be made up into a car which could be either RHD or LHD, without further alteration. However, someone may know better.
