New acquisition: 36/5727

I just picked this up from the widow of a good friend of ours (Lotus Corp club in Chicago). The car
has been dormant, in a detached garage since 1990. It's going to need a 'bleach bath' due to
some critters in the boot and a musty interior but for now, I have no real plans for it other than
start picking away at stuff and being careful of the slippery slope.

There's BRG under the white but I prefer the white, also.

Yes, contrats to Greg...it is a great car.

The same garage also held this for the past 33 years....

img_5742.png and

Actually, I owned this rust free 1965 Cortina Wagon from 1976 thru 1985 and now it has returned to my stable.

What to do now....there are so many options.

Keep unrestored?
Restore to stock?
Lotus Cortina spec? (that was the plan back in '76 and I have the parts)
Tow Car? (I towed my Elan with a LC in the '70s)
Resto-Mod with Zetec, 5-Speed, Rack n Pinion and AC?

Not sure....but having a 50 year old car that seats more than 2 will be great fun for me and my grandsons.

Clark, another option: sell it to me. Theresa preferred the wagon :-)

I vote for resto mod.

Lance,
Turn it into a Lotus powered tow car for your Elite. My friend Pete would love to take it off your hands if its just too much bother. LOL

Greg,
Looks good , but hey, all pre-airflow coupes look good. 201 numbers after mine. Mine is staying its original Monaco Red.

Hello,

what a beauty! (and only 34 before my pre-airflow, which is also white!)

It's appropriate that this thread includes new acquisition by both Greg and myself. We met in 1970 while still teenagers and now nearly 50 years on we continue to have that Lotus Illness. I think he blames me for his first drive in an Elan.

Greg's lovely Elan Sprint is among the nicest I have ever seen.

Roger.....since my travels included a stop in Columbus, OH Pete already has some of the cache of Cortina spares what were unloaded on me by 2 other Chicago area Cortina owners. Pete is passionate about his Cortina.

Looks great Greg! Thank you for letting me help you push it into its new parking space. And Clark, I too blame you and your dad!!! Why didn't you tell me never to sell the Lotus Cortina?

Greg, I'll set aside a set of seat covers for you!!!

My coupe is white and is 36/5938. I wish Greg's shop was larger, I'd park mine next to his and we could restore them concurrently.
