Road and Track on-line has a fun article by Brian Sylvestro on the 26R.

Thanks for sharing. Great video. The last 15 seconds showing the 26R cornering with the inside wheel coming off the ground and rotating around the corner is fantastic.

Watch how he has to work so much harder through the left hand corners than the rights. That's the difference your weight makes to the handling when your on the limit, its like a motorcycle side car. But he does know how to drive it :D

cheers
Rohan

It finished 5th overall at the Hungaroring classic the other week, beating several Cobras and E types. Only 4 Cobras in front of it!!

Great video! I agree with Rohan-the weight of the driver makes a huge difference-our local track, Westwood was right handed, Portland is right handed and those are the two tracks I raced my 26R at first. Then I went to Seattle-left handed and realised I had a problem but didn't resolve it before going to Laguna Seca for the historics, again left handed--we relocated the battery and made other changes that improved it but did not eliminate the problem.

What are the tires on that car? They appear to be street radials.

Avon CR6 ZZs.

Obligatory "wear" for many historic races in Europe (if Dunlop L tyres are not obligatory).

The tyres may look like van or trailer tyres, but in many respects they are better than most modern tyres, especially in the wet.

Thanks Frogelan (!) I had considered those tires for my Elan for a while but since I am not racing any more it seemed like unnecessary expense.

Nice video!
All true. Amazingly little lean. Does anyone know what spring rates and sway bars he is running?

I found that instability under breaking (which was initially terrifying) can be fixed with careful shock selection and tuning.

Anyone know what the 4 buttons on the steering wheel are for?

Eric

I'm guessing the buttons are for data logging or lap timing?

And how did they pass the Scrutineers? Replicant Racing Rules... unfortunately.

Silhouette racers, with fat wallets, have ruined the sport.
