Does your car have the recess for them? a guy we do work for occasionally has a US delivered Federal car and that has the recesses but doesn't have the side lights fitted.

Also i noticed his front turn signal lights are different (i assumed some one had changed them in it's past but noticed the car i've linked below has the same ones)

Bit like this....

An SE should have a chrome strip on the sill, plus SE badges on the rear wings, but it does depend on what Lotus had in stock at the time of build. Cam covers should also be a different colour.

Later Federal Elans (S4s & Sprints) did not have sidelights in the front valence as we had the front lights & reflectors mounted on the front bumper

We (Andy Graham Lotus Historian, Tim Wilkes & myself) have come to the conclusion that all Federal S4s were at the UK SE trim level, since they all (dangerous word with Lotus) appear to have Seat Belts, Knock-Off wheels & SE Spec engines.Only one level of trim was marketed here in the States.

My 69 SE didn't have them either, no holes drilled thru the body but the recess was there.

Mine is definitely not a federal car (no holes behind the bumper for the federal side light wiring) and as far as I know it has been in Canada since new.

Lots of differences with these cars, mostly random.

:D

Them 'pin' lights are called side-lights or parking lights in the UK.

Do the orange lights go on at night in the USA. & maybe flash off as an indicator? Or are there two filaments so they flash brighter at night.

Yellow lights are combo parking and turn signal/hazard warning lights. (dual filament)
