I would think silicone would be as good as anything.( if it's just the glass).

No not Silicone! Parts stores carry an adhesive specific for this task by 3M or Loctite

I just use ordinary superglue but do have to re-stick my mirror about once a year. I have tried all sorts of 'specialist' glues and none seem to work for very long, especially when there is a large change in ambient temperature. I would avoid any 'flexible' glues as the rear mirror wobbles around so much it's impossible to get a clear view of what's behind you - I tried some sticky mounting pads once and discovered this the heard way.. :D

Almost an annual event in my Sprint - usually falls off just before MOT......I use 3M double sided tape - works a treat for about 12 months!

I use transparent epoxy. The one you will find in any DIY market, in two small tubes which you push simultaneously, so proportion is nearly perfect. It is very transparent, you do not see anything from the outer side. If you use too much or when pressing surplus (if not too much) is easily removed with a cutters blade.

So strong you need not to worry falling off ...
worry only if you want to remove it case you want to change wind screen

Used this before, it's permanent

Yup, that's it, don't mess around with anything else...

Probably is superglue, but it comes with catalyst wipes as well...

I would echo the glue specifically designed for that, one car I bought had it put on with something else and over time it cracked a very nice circle right around the glue point. The only other thing is that my S3 has the rearview mirror mounted on the metal rod and my +2 has it screwed into the roof area, did Lotus even mount them on the windshield? Gordon Sauer

I glued a day/night rear view mirror on the windscreen of my S2 Elan back in the early 1970s using the Loctite product. It's still there.

+1

Think it was Phil who recommended it to me a while back, since then i've used it on at least ten cars now and never had an issue with it. Whats more is it's very clean and mess free (doesn't ooze out all over the place and doesn't discolour)

For what it costs don't mess about....

I would agree the Halfords kit is spot on. I put my mirror back after a new windscreen 3 years ago and its been ok. There is sufficient in the kit to fit more than one mirror.

Any reason why not to use silicon? I've used "sanitary silicon" to fix car mirrors before - it's a good "filler" if there's nothing behind the mirror to glue to
