Anyone ever heard of a direct export scheme for Elans?

To return to the original topic: The original owner of my S2 ordered it through Auto Europe (which is still in the rental business). It was delivered to the owner's fiancee in July '65 and she wisely had it sent directly to the docks rather than trying to navigate London traffic. However, if I recall the conversation correctly, this meant it came into the US as a new car rather than used, negating the financial benefit of delivery in England.
