Factory enginebay

Need a little info. I'm getting ready to repaint my 65 s2. I wasn't going to take the body off. But now I'm thinking about doing the Enginebay also. Is this correct way it is painted?

I believe it is supposed to be black.
Something about an agreement between Lotus and the licencing authority back in the 60`s in order to be allowed to put the registration number on the front grill. The background to the white letters would therefore be dark to improve the contrast.

Yes the engine bay should be black (satin or Matt?) also the area of the sliding hinges should also be black. Can post a picture if you like... lmk

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm pulling the body off. Is the trunk area also black?

I have repainted my engine bay a couple of times. I have never had the body off. Just pulled the engine/trans.
