I failed to notice that this Elan was owned by Horst Auer for several years. Horst was very well known in Elite circles and passed away a few years ago. He developed a good relationship with the ZF factory and was able to borrow drawings and patterns from time to time to make small production runs of items like bell housings for the Coventry Climax FW and ZF gearbox combination. He was a very talented fellow.

I remembering looking at this car some years ago and noticed the engine was dry sumped, the oil tank appears to be in the boot next to the fuel tank. This affects which class the car should have on the HTPs .
Just checked FIA appendix K and it specifically states dry sumped Elans are not eligible for period F i.e. pre 66
regards
Andy

While looking for something else in the archives I found this-I wonder if the car referred to is the car being discussed here:

In our Garage, there is a set of four old (Revolution or 26R?) very lightweight alloy 5 or 5 1/2 x 13 in wheels with PCD around 4 in or ca. 100 mm. The PO had one S1 and one S2 26r style racer which were broken up in the early seventies. If anybody is interested, I can check them for dimensions and condition. (They did look straight and had no curb dents)
