Good stuff Rob...I hadn't seen this leaflet before. Confirms the L.O.T.U.S across the back!

I seem to have bought one (S2 S/E) in bit form...is there no end to this madness?
The end for me was 32 cars....I'm working my way back to some sort of manageable number now, in single figures, but I much prefer buying to selling.
Photos of the S2 S/E please Rob!!!!

Thanks Rob. Did you see '... based on the Racing Elan and Rally prototype ...'? I knew about the later S3 rally car but an earlier prototype? And they make something of it in an advert. Unlike Lotus to do that.
Is there any indication of a date on there?

Sorry to suddenly appear from nowhere I have an S3 SE FHC that I purchased two and a half years ago from a dealer. It has been well restored, everything is as it should be, but I've spent two years fettling basically. The car is painted in a slightly darker shade of red to carnival carried out some years ago, but the front of the nose has been blown over in carnival red, the colour difference only visible in strong sunlight. Being a bit anal, I've decided to have a full repaint carried out. Now I'm wondering if I should add a centre stripe, being technically correct.

Welcome to the forum! Lovely looking car, please post more photos.
For a small fee Lotus would paint an Elan in any colour the customer wanted. I believe only some S2 S/E's and perhaps the odd S3 fhc (one in the States I'm thinking of) used for display purposes had centre stripes, but who knows.
Your car may have had speed stripes under the sill trims, Susan Miller might be able to help you out with a set.

What a stunning looking car. Are you really sure you want to repaint it?! Would stripes cover the offending mis-match of paint?

Hi Mark. Thanks for your comments. The mismatch on the nose of the car, which as I said is slight, is full width to the front edge of the wheelarches. There are also a few areas of sunken paint and minor starfish cracks. I'm sure many would accept it as it is, but when I showed these areas to my paint guy he said its simpler and quicker to carry out a strip down, glass out repaint. I will have it repainted in the red that it is now, whatever that is, but was thinking to add a black stripe if it was factory correct. It was painted about 15-20 years ago, was bought as a project from Paul Matty in 1992 and rebuilt by an engineer over a long period. The receipts folder is huge, but nothing in there for the repaint. I was told Paul Matty were involved, but the build goes back before electronic records being kept.

I know it's hard to match colours , but your car doesn't look like Carnival Red on my monitor. Carnival looks a fair bit more orangy than that.
However, a few Elans were painted in my all time favorite red, the Ford Monaco Red, which was used on the works Lotus Cortina rally cars. Do you think that your colour looks like this?
