It could be? It’s marked in the same area as mine which is toward the front of the door. I added the photo of my right door where you can tell someone else wrote the number as the style does not match the left door. Both of mine are in pen, but look like yours may have been scribed? More mysteries..

Somewhere between Unit Numbers 6138 and 6278 the Type 36 changed from pre-airflow to airflow.

However, it is not the Unit No that should be considered, but the Invoice Date, since that gives a more accurate indicator of when the car was built (approximately) and thus when the moveable feast of the introduction of the airflow system was introduced. Cars were not built sequentially be Unit No.

I say moveable feast because as we all know, the introduction of features into our cars was never clear cut with Lotus.

Just to add to this, the online Elan registry lists #s 6186 and 6195 as pre airflow, with 6186 having a 10/66 build date. 6195 does not list a date.

Unit No 6195 was invoiced in November 1966.

Another fly in the ointment for this period is, of course, the move to Hethel in November 1966. In the records there are several cars that were produced around that time not being invoiced until months later.

I owned 6186 many years ago. Definitely is a pre-airflow.

My LHD coupe is #6274, body number might be 1527, left factory Dec 5 1966, and is an airflow.

Peter, Body Nos in your Unit No range usually start with a figure 6

:D my RHD S3 Coupe is 36/6725 (the next number to yours :) ) it was a full airflow when I first got it, but when Vegantune of Spalding did a major refurb in the early 80's they removed the air vents at the side of the dashboard. Dunno why? but I haven't really missed them.
