Hi all. My S3 FHC is body number 1620 and chassi 36/6055. It is not an Air Flow.
It left the Factory in September 66. Hope this helps.
Take care

Thank you to all of you that has contributed. The reason for going down the body number route rather than the VIN route is bodies can be changed, as appears to have happened to unit 6843 if it has a pre-airflow body.

Francisco, your car was the last pre-airflow body I was aware of, but body number 1467 being a air flow has thrown a spanner in the works.

Please keep contibuting with your body numbers so that we can get a better picture of bodies with with air-flow.

Sorry for the confusion, there are too much Elan bodies in the workshop - 1467 is pre-airflow.

I'm certain our Elan Coupe was converted to airflow at some stage.

Body number no 2186, chassis number 36/5286, registered 50 years ago 17/01/1966 Reg no FRR850D.

I would be interested if anyone has any history on this Elan as we've only owned for two years.

Just to add that the body number is 1403. Never knew the body numbers existed until this thread!

Tony
Maybe a new aeroflow body shell with those numbers and dates, retaining the VIN/registration?

I guess it could have suffered major damage at some stage and had the shell replaced, as it seems odd for someone to just convert it to airflow!

I know this is a rather old topic but was just asking this very same question and I don’t know if this was ever solved.
I believe I have one of the earlier S3 Coupe Airflow. Type/Chassis 36/6544 and Body No 1723. Body number on Firewall and written on both doors. No markings on the roof. See images. I have no data of when or where (Hethel or Cheshunt)the car was built although I believe it to be a 67. Any insight on this info would be appreciated.

This car also has a Cheshunt chassis plate where the Diff oil spec has been scratched out for all suppliers, which I believe was close to the time when the factory change took place.

Best,
Johan

Thanks for bumping this up - I have an update , that I kind of forgot about.

I had previously said that my pre airflow, #6138, built in Sept 66, had no findable body number.

Rather by accident, I uncovered the number on the firewall, #1640. I continue to believe it to be among the last before airflow was introduced.

Hi Johan,
I have 36/6612, It left the factory in Dec '66 just before xmas.
Our cars must be near the very start of the Airflows (still haven't found my body number) .
do you have the face level vents?

#6544 was built/invoiced on the 28th April 1967.
Regarding the scratched out diff oil on the Vin Plate, from what I have seen it was done on SE models fitted with the 3.55 ratio diff but don't know the reason why.

Hi Jim, Yes I believe I do. To be sure we talk about the same thing, I attached this photo of small round vents just outside the dash.
