My restored S2/SE

PostPost by: PhilGreen » Fri Dec 04, 2015 10:16 am

Finally got around to finishing off my Elan. Only 40 years in the making. Bought in 1974 and used for about 9 months. Then taken off the road after various problems, a rotting chassis being the final straw. Over the years getting side tracked with other projects I managed to get a replacement Spyder spaceframe chassis. Many years later I managed to get a paint job done and that spurred me on with the job. Things really stepped up last year when she had my full attention. Many hard to get parts later and here she is. Next step will be the MOT. I'm led to believe it is the penultimate S2 made. So there are a few S3 items as standard.

A new hood and gutters for the cant rails that it had never had. I'm wondering if when purchased as new it was in kit form.

The head is standard for now as it will only be used for shows. So an octain booster and lead replacement additive should cover it.

Maybe not a purist idea but I like the idea of them and think they also look good.

It's a lovely car. I had 5538 for many years, a very late S2 and it had the LOTUS letters across the back like that, but possibly more widely spaced though memory is not to be trusted, and Indianapolis 500 winners badges on the flanks - I'm guessing yours should have those too for completeness.

I have those badges. They have always been fitted behind the front wheel arch.
