Seems to have a good owner who looks after the car:

OMU 182E was first registered on Tuesday 14th of February 1967 near Middlesex. At an estimated 68,397 miles, this car has done a lower than average number of miles for its age. It was painted yellow previously.

Thanks!

I know the owner of the S3 (OMU 182E) until the early 2000's and am sure that it was looked after, and it seems that it still is. That's nice to know.

As for the S4 (WLH 261G), several owners and ongoing trouble with tyres, bulbs and the handbrake (ha, they're so hard to fix!). Strange that it failed the MOT for a Hazard warning tell-tale light - in my time it didn't have Hazard lights. I don't think any 1969 Elans in the UK did. The odometer is definitely wrong - presumably it has been around the dial once. Anyway, a respray and tuned engine may have put it back on the straight and narrow!

Most cars have their ups and downs, any Elan on the road after 50 years deserves a prize. :-)

I bought my first Elan S2 in the mid 70's it was a fantastic car but I ended up wrecking it in the long hot summer of 1976. I was only in my early 20's and could only afford 3rd party insurance so it was a total loss, it seemed to me the best thing was to break the car for parts but by chance I managed to buy a cheap rolling S1 shell.

My plan was to try to make a good car from both. I got as far as fitting the engine and some trim parts and turned the S1 into a runner but then fate stepped in and a deposit for my first house was needed so both Elans were sold in 1977 to a dealer called Moto-Build who planned to complete the work.

Where are they now?

I bought my 3rd Elan in 1980. It was painted in Ford aubergine with an S4 bonnet and orange carpets.

I soon established that it's original colour was red so I had it re-sprayed and removed the orange carpets. Fortunately the original rubber matting was still in place!

Later on I lightly modified it for production sports car racing but only raced it once in the Lotus Challenge, The following season I bought a half share in a Lotus 61 FF with my brother for racing.

Then in 1985 completely out of the blue a chap phoned me to see if I wanted to sell my Elan, I wasn't in the market but he persevered then he asked at what price I would be prepared to sell at, so I went top end of the scale and before I realised what was happening he said "deal" without even inspecting it. He turned up the next day with cash and loaded it onto a trailer and said he was shipping it off to Japan.

The +2 belonged to my brother. I used to run a Club Lotus meet at this pub.

Anybody know where 26/R/5 is? I sold it in 1985 (?) to John Streets in California, he sold it to Steve Griswold who sold it to somebody in Italy-then I lost track.
