Has anyone seen this graphic on the rocker panel of an Elan? Does anyone know if it's original or aftermarket? I'm trying to decide if I want to have it recreated when I have the body painted.

Salut

I'll answer.

Nope, never seen that on an Elan before - looks like it's there to disguise something even nastier.

The font appears to be from later cars - maybe it's an Esprit sticker ?

Yes seen it on a few +2's but all in the US so my guess would be it was a US dealer that put them on (seen similar decals on s4 2 seaters in the US too).

That said there getting rare now but i think that's mainly down to the amount of original Paint +2's in the US (People don't tend to refit the decals after a repaint)

Although not the same as yours there are a few mentioned in this thread with more pictures on the 2nd page.

Surprisingly, I have a new set available. It was part of a cache of Lotus parts I purchased in the past. Although never fitted to my knowledge, they were sold through dealerships to be installed either by the customer or the dealership. Basically it was an aftermarket modification that was very popular in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

The set I have NOS (New Old Stock) is still in the original container and has never been installed, although being that it is an older part, I cannot guarantee it still has the stickiness as when it was new. They look terrific! It might be worth the try and would substantially easier than having it painted. Sold AS IS. See the pics below.

$20 shipped within the Continental USA. Contact Frank

Old Elan.jpg and

I took this picture around 1968 in Bognor. (I think)

A nicer job than in the OP's picture, in my opinion.

No idea of the stripe's origin.
